on the Trails, Francis Peak to Thurston Peak, New Shoes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\">In early September 2013, my next door neighbor and I went shoe shopping for me.\u00a0 I tried on a few different pairs of trail shoes, but couldn&#8217;t commit.\u00a0 A couple days later he came over with a pair of Brooks Cascadia 8s.\u00a0 He had only used them a few times and they were only a size bigger than what I usually wear, and it turns out that lots of trail runners and ultramarathoners buy a size or 1\/2 bigger because your feet swell at long distances.\u00a0 Excited about the &#8220;new&#8221; shoes (they were in great condition) I set off for some runs.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\n<!-- iframe plugin v.6.0 wordpress.org\/plugins\/iframe\/ -->\n<iframe height=\"405\" width=\"590\" frameborder=\"0\" allowtransparency=\"true\" scrolling=\"no\" src=\"https:\/\/www.strava.com\/activities\/110533875\/embed\/9b63f116b7861170bdaa60536af6d0b931c8fd77\" class=\"iframe-class\"><\/iframe>\n\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">First, I drove up Farmington Canyon to the FAA towers and ran the Great Western Trail to Thurston Peak and back.\u00a0 It is a beautiful ridge &#8211; Morgan County on the East and Davis County on the West.\u00a0 Really spectacular.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.professorontherun.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/untitled-picture1.png?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-115 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.professorontherun.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/untitled-picture1.png?resize=640%2C447&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Untitled picture\" width=\"640\" height=\"447\" \/>\nIt was also my longest run at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.strava.com\/activities\/110533875\" target=\"_blank\">9.1 miles.<\/a>\u00a0 My pace was probably around 12:00-14:00 min\/mile, although the messed up GPS said faster.\u00a0 This may be the run that sealed the deal for me.\u00a0 I was up in the mountains where I love to be &#8211; covering more miles than I could on a slow hike &#8211; and
